Supporting Charities and the Wider Community

Here at Coles Funeral Directors, we are passionate about investing in the communities that we are a part of.

We support many different charitable organisations and community groups, working closely with two main charity partners who are doing wonderful work for families across Cardiff…

2 Wish Upon A Star provides bereavement support for families who have suddenly and traumatically lost a child or young adult aged 25 years and under. Some of the local families we’ve cared for here in Cardiff have received amazing support from the 2 Wish team, and as a family-business we understand the profound importance of the work carried out by this charity.

By supporting this charity, Coles Funeral Directors aims to help 2 Wish in its mission to ensure every A&E Department in Wales has a suitable bereavement suites for bereaved relatives and that bereavement boxes are available for parents at each of these hospitals. 2 Wish also provides immediate bereavement support for parents and siblings and delivers a professional counselling service for bereaved parents.

The team at 2 Wish also extends their support to witnesses of traumatic events resulting in the death of a child or young adult. And a large part of the work the team does is to ensure the staff involved with responding to tragic events, are trained appropriately and given the necessary emotional support.

Tŷ Hafan is a leading Welsh children’s charity providing palliative care to children and young people while supporting their families. If you think this means we simply offer a place where children can come to die, you couldn’t be further from the truth. Tŷ Hafan is about creating a lifetime of memories to cherish. It’s about joy, laughter and friendship. It’s about life.

Our vibrant hospice and diverse community programmes provide comfort, care and support to children with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

We offer short-break care and help families make the most of the time they have together – making precious memories and ensuring a short life is a full life. And when a child is close to the end of their life, Tŷ Hafan becomes a family’s safe haven, by their side during their most difficult time – and for as long as they need us.

City Hospice is a registered charity providing specialist medical, nursing and end of life care to patients in their own homes. They help people with life-limiting illnesses such as dementia, cancer, Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Built on the goodwill of local people, City Hospice, has been a part of the local community for the last 34 years. (The charity changed its name from George Thomas Hospice Care to City Hospice in August 2017.) It is the only specialist palliative care provider for the city of Cardiff and needs to raise a total of £2m to keep providing its specialist services.

As well as providing palliative care to people in their own homes across Cardiff, City Hospice also offers counselling (adults and children), welfare benefits advice and day centres with a range of activities.

So here at Coles Funeral Directors we’re doing everything we can to support this incredible charity in its vital work.

Sky Full of Stars App

This companion app has been created to give those who have suffered the loss of a loved one the ability to view their dedicated star, in the 2 Wish Upon A Star virtual sky, to remember them always. Family or friend, young or old, these stars are there as a reminder of the love we hold for those no longer with us.

Visit to learn more about dedicating a star.

A beautiful way to commemorate someone special you’ve lost whilst supporting this amazing charity for bereaved parents.

How You Can Help

Should your family wish to raise funds for a charity in lieu of flowers and you don’t already have a cause in mind – City Hospice and/or 2 Wish Upon A Star would be very grateful for any donations and all money you might raise would be put to incredible use in the community.

Simply let us know and we can manage the collection of donations for you.

Working to become a Dementia Friendly business

In collaboration with Dementia Friends Wales and Marie Curie, we are making our funeral homes in Birchgrove, Llandaff and Rumney more welcoming and accessible for customers who are living with dementia, as well as their carers and support network.  We hope that taking action in this way will help more people in our community to use our service with confidence, knowing they will receive our support every step of the way at the time they need it most.
